Tara Reed Powers Huskies to Sweep

WILMINGTON, DE-- Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) hit a grand slam and combined with Jamie Minix (Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) to toss a five-inning no-hitter in leading the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 10-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College in game one of a doubleheader. The Huskies won game two by a score of 9-0 with Reed hitting a three-run homer.
Reed hit a grand slam in the opener and also pitched three scoreless innings to help the Huskies to a 10-0, five-inning win. Reed fanned six and walked two in her time in the circle. Minix finished up by striking out the game's final batter, one of two strikeouts for the freshman.
With Bloomsburg leading 4-0 in the fifth inning, the Huskies loaded the bases bringing Reed to plate who went deep making it 8-0. Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) then both followed with solo homers giving Bloomsburg three consecutive home runs.
In game two, the Huskies led 5-0 going into the seventh inning. After Shen DeBaro (Milton/Milton) singled in Shayla Esgro (Jermyn/Lakeland) who had doubled, Emily Young (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) reached on a single bringing Reed to the plate who hit a three-run homer putting the Huskies on top 9-0. In the doubleheader Reed went 3-5 with two homers and seven RBI. Amanda Whitford (Mt. Bethel/Bangor) pitched four innings to earn the win in game two with Minix going the final three.
Bloomsburg, 8-1, will play at Lincoln University on Friday in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
